Альбом «From The Dark» занял 1-е место в британском независимом чарте (UK Independent Chart) и 2-е место в британском рок- и метал-чарте (UK Rock & Metal Chart)!
Big Jay McNeely. BUSTER BROWN - The New King Of The Blues: Collectables 5110 ORIGINAL LINER NOTES: The Blues have always been many things to many people. The Blues are the flat, stale taste of too many cigarettes and too many for the road as it feels the morning after. Or, they're the filtered night sounds that creep into a dingy room to remind the would-be sleeper of the world he seeks to flee. The Blues are the soft smell of perfume - like the kind she used to wear... or a tired back and aching feet and a ten-pound hammer swinging in your hand. The Blues are anything and sometimes everything. The Blues, as Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn put it, are!! To Buster Brown, The Blues are a swinging love thing... a thing he gets into with a shout of his voice and a blast on his harmonica. To Buster Brown, The Blues are a swinging love affair between a talent and a gal named Fannie Mae. That's how the Buster Brown Story starts... with Fannie Mae. Buster and "Fannie Mae" came shouting out of Rhythm and Bluesdom a few short months ago and set the music world on its swinging ear with a delightful resounding bang, the like of which hasn't been heard since the days of Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Jelly Roll and Leadbelly, legendary voices that wailed and shouted the Blues when it was almost a crime and thusly preserved an idiom and paved a road for latter day exponents like B.B., Little Walter, Muddy Waters and the more recently recognized Buster Brown. And, lest we give the impression that Buster Brown is a young upstart of a Johnny-Come-Lately, let us hasten to add that Mr. Brown has been around the "Blues-Belt" for many a season. And he's been delighting the fanciers of the truer form of Blues wherever he set up shop. But like we indicated a couple of paragraphs ago, it was the Buster Brown-"Fannie Mae" affair that put Mr. Brown in the spotlight. There's an infectious happiness about Buster's performance with "Fannie Mae" that caught the nation's fancy quickly and moved Buster from the supporting cast to top billing. But the more important reward was Buster's vindication of his many prior refusals to record "Fannie Mae" or any other of his own unique things. Until Buster Brown met Bobby Robinson, the intrepid recording boss for Fire Records, he didn't think much of the idea of putting his stuff on wax because he frankly didn't think much of recording directors ... or until lured into the studio in 1959 by Bobby Robinson to record for the latter's Fire label. The initial session yielded Brown's monster hit, "Fanny Mae", and led to further sessions over the next two years which produced the rest of the music on this disc. Buster never became a front-rank recording artist, but had brief tenures with a number of smaller labels in addition to sessions with Checker and Blue Horizon before succumbing in 1976 in his adopted hometown of Brooklyn. While not strictly a bluesman, Buster Brown was a performer whose music exuded the exuberance and happiness evident in these sides. His repertoire was varied, and folk songs, pop ballads and blues are to be found here in addition to the rhythm-and-blues fare typical of the era when these songs were released as singles on Fire Records. Folk songs familiar to most listeners include "John Henry" and "Raise A Ruckus", while "Good News" may be a distant relative of the similarly-named gospel song. House-party entertainers had to please a diverse audience and Brown accommodates with "I Got The Blues When It Rains," a mild corruption of a 1920s pop song, and "Lost In A Dream". A bit more surprising in his inclusion of the McGuire Sisters' hit, "Sincerely". Wonder if he sang this at house parties in 1960? Aside from Sonny Terry, Buster's other main influence was Fats Domino, and "Blueberry Hill" fits nicely in this set. "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby" is a bit of hokum substantially different from the Louis Jordan song, and Buster's version of "St. Louis Blues" never sounded happier. Conventional blues include "Fannie Mae" (Brown's signature song) and "When Things Go Wrong," a song written and recorded by Tampa Red but popularized by Elmore James as "It Hurts Me Too". More blue sounds emanate from the instrumental "Madison Shuffle" and "Don't Dog Your Woman," possibly descended from a Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry song, as that duo was very active in New York during the 'fifties. As you listen to these songs, make a mental note of thanks to Buster Brown, whose happy brand of blues saw us through before the first 'Blues Boom' of the 1960s. --KERRY KUDLACEK, A/K/A CHICAGO KERRY
Louis Jordan "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby" достиг 81-й строчки в поп-чартах, но не попал в R&B чарт.
Wonderful".
